Ok here it is my first blog post in ages. Well I just want to start off by wishing everyone a happy new years etc. So I’m happy to announce that Dubway will have its first session for 2012 with special guests all the way from Sweden. DJ Irk, Bellaboo and Little Jinder. All three are set to take to the decks this saturday January 28 at Club Culture. DJ Irk has been pushing the dubstep sounds in Sweden for years, he also runs the All Out Dubstep label. Bellaboo host’s her very own show on ESS radio and Little Jinder has released an E.P on Drop the lime‘s Trouble and bass label. To say the least this night is going to be freakin’ heavy!
Giant Swing is Bangkok’s most cutting edge house night. The monthly event organized by DJ Masa and Hiroo has played host to numerous Japanese DJ’s visiting the Kingdom. However this time round as their guest is not a DJ but a graphic artist from Osaka called Qotaroo. We visited Qotaroo on our Japan trip earlier this year. His exhibition at Galaxy Gallery was extraordinary! So good in fact that his works are on display in Bangkok at the Hof gallery. So for this months Giant Swing session Qotaroo designed the artwork and will make a special live appearance on the night of the event. I was also invited to DJ on the night. So if your into the future house and future garage sounds please drop by glow on august 20.
For this months podcast I selected tunes from Jamie xx, Ossie, Joker and rebel Mc. I know some peeps are expecting me just to play dubstep but I think from now on I’m going to keep things on the eclectic tip. If you’re checking out the show for the first time then I gotta warn you theres a bit of me chatting on the mic, I still love to host the podcast like a radio show. I hope its not too annoying for y’all. I also wanted to correct myself when I said the august edition of Giant swing is on the 22, its actually on the 20 of august. Gigs to watch out for this week are:
BKK evolution with Jiving Tribe saturday 23 at fish club
Phat Phunk 22 friday at Glow
The fit sound of Detroit saturday 23 at Glow
Last but not least download the July Podcast here:
Big thanks to everyone for making it down to the last DUBWAY party. It was an honor to have two of my heroes RSD and Gapi Dub kitchen come to play for us that night. One of the things I loved most about the early 90′s Jungle scene was the ragga. I always felt genres such as Jungle, dnb and now dubstep could fuse ragga lyrics together and not sound watered down. One such duo who are credited for championing the ragga jungle sound were More Rockers a production duo of Rob Smith and Peter D. Rose.
Another really cool genre of beats to come out in the 90′s was Trip Hop and like Jungle the genre was also able to marry the sounds of Dub reggae, Hip hop and Soul. Rob Smith the other half of More Rockers is also considered to be one of the originators of the trip hop sound. It was him and Ray Mighty that formed Smith and Mighty in the late 1980′s Bristol. To date they have released 3 ground breaking albums and a string of hit singles. They also have produced tracks for artists such as Fresh Four and Massive attack.
Fast forward to present day and Rob Smith is still very active in the underground music scene. Moving past the Jungle and trip hop vibes nowadays Rob Smith prefers to produce some of the heaviest bassbin smashing dubstep under the moniker RSD. To date he has released tracks on labels such as Black Box, Punch Drunk, R8, Ear Wax and Tectonic.
Another originator of beats and bass is none other then the legendary Gap T Bone. He is considered to be the Bob Marley of Thailand, well thats my opinion anyways. His band named T-Bone ( of course ) have been making music in the Kingdom since the mid 90′s. Go to any reggae festival in Thailand and you can best be sure that they are the headlining act. So good are him and his band that they have even been invited to play at Glastonbury in 2005 and 2007, Womad and Smiley festival. One of the side Projects of Gap T – Bone is Gapi Dub Kitchen. Unfortunately he’s had very little time to spend producing for his side project but what he did produce was a groundbreaking E.P
I am deeply honored to host a night with two very talented Producers. RSD aka Smight and Mighty and GAPI DUB KITCHEN aka Gap T Bone. Both are the Offspring of dub music but at the same time both represent a different style of DUB. RSD being completely on the DUBSTEP/REGGAE vibe and GAPI DUB KITCHEN will be Dubbin’ it up on the roots side of tingz. This the direction I want to take our DUBWAY PARTIES, I feel we need to educate all the massive about the beats in the past as well as show what is to come in the future. I hope all of you who are down with what we have been doing with the Thai Dub beats scene can come down and enjoy the vibes with us at Club Culture on July 9. Tickets are 400 baht at the door but entry is FREE BEFORE 11pm.

This is because in Bangkok will have its pre – elections on sunday so there fore it means that nothing will be open on saturday night. As for this months session we ‘re going to have just locals take care of the selecting. As for me I’ve tons of new tracks that I will play, this months set will definitely be on the future garage tip with some dub step thrown in for good measure. Either way the vibes will be on full throttle for sure. Peeps in the line up are Myself (dragon), Hiroo and new comer DJ Cut the Crap! This month’s artwork was designed by local artist Hoo Doll. He’s been a big fan of Dubway and vice versa and we all are thrilled to have him design this months E-flyer. Theres no entrance fee so feel free to join us on friday.

I am very honored to have been invited to play at Club Triangle in OsakaJapan. I’ve played in Japan a few times but I’ve never been to any other city then Tokyo and in contrast to that city’s workaholic lifestyle Osaka’s inhabitants are so much more laid back. Right in the heart of Osaka’s downtown district is Club Triangle. This 3 floor venue blasts everything from underground to hip hop to drum n bass on its massive sound system. DJ wise selectah’s such as Rebel Mc, DJ Zinc and Laurent Garnier have graced the club’s decks. DJ Toyo – Club Triangle’s manager booked me to play on Friday night and even though the crowd was a lot different than what I am used to (it was a house/techno night) I still am very honored to have been invited by Toyo to represent Thailand and the Dubway crew over in Osaka. I reckon a lot of the stuff that I play nowadays isn’t that much dub step and more on the garage tip, it certainly did go down well with the ravers inside the club on that night. To top that I was joined by an army of my close friends, many of whom I met in Bangkok ages ago. We all got niced up on the two free bottles of Jack Daniels that Toyo kindly supplied us with. If y’all want to see the madness I uploaded some pictures on my facebook so please feel free to check out what went down on the frosty February night I also want to big up DJ Hiroo (oyampan), Quotaroo, Mami and Nobu, Fum and Ken, Naru and Fumi, Hiro, DJ Toyo, DJ Tuttle, Fat Boy, Galaxy Gallery Crew and all the wonderfull peeps I met in Osaka. BIG UPS TO Y’ALL!
I’ ve just got back from the Pai reggae festival in Chiang Mai. I had a blast checking out all the local and international reggae bands. Local thai dub band Rahjasie I really impressed me with there live set. I’m glad to see that Thailand got so much young talented musicians. Being inspired by all the music I’m really in the mood to get back on the decks again. This coming Friday at Glow in Sukhumvit soi 23 will be our very first Future garage night. When it comes to the whole dubstep movement, there are many tracks that aren’t just half beat wobbly bass stuff. I’m not really that much into wobblers but I do love the nu school garagey/tribaly beats kinda stuff. I feel that its about time to create an outlet for those types of tunes. Expect to hear Rosca, Untold and F dropped at this event. DJ’s in the line up are DJ Hiroo, Dragon, Skygazing and visuals by VJ Gorb Tickets are 350 baht at the door. I hope to see y’all there
