Shanghai Trip

To date Shanghai is the asian City that I  visit  most frequently. In fact Just last year I was invited to play at the Shelter. The first time playing at that club was Awesome and to date I consider the Shelter is my one of my favorite clubs in Asia. This year I was lucky enough to have been invited again  by Subculture resident DJ Drunk Monk.  The only thing  different from last time was that this event would see Myself, Jo stitch, Mc Sinamon, Pakorn and Napat heading over to Shanghai to Jam with the Subculture crew. Most times I ‘ve DJ’d overseas I would have to go by myself but this time It was great to be able to head to Shanghai with all of my crew. We landed in Shanghai on Thursday night and after we checked in to our rooms we all went out for a night of serious boozing. Big ups to Gaz for supplying us with all those Tiger beers and Jager shots!! We pretty much did the same thing on Friday night but didn’t  go all out since we had to save our energy for the big night on Saturday. I had to admit that I was still quite tired when Saturday came. I took a nap before the party and woke up around 8. I met up with everyone at the Club and made it in time to hear DJ DJI get on the dekcs. After it was DJ Drunk Monk setting things straight with a solid hour of some of the deepest dubstep sounds I’ve heard in ages.  Then it was time for Jo Stitch to heat  up the venue with some serious hard hitting dnb and lemme tell ya the crowd went banana’s to his set! To be honest I think he deserved every last bit of applause :) Jo’s  come a long way and has worked with me for many years now and I’m glad to see him have such a wonderful time that night at the club. I got on the decks at 2:30 and by that time a few peeps were a bit worn out from Jo’s beats so it did take a while for me to get things going again. I think this time I played it was more difficult to get the crowd hyped then the last time I played in 2009. I’m certainly not really into the wobbly bass as much as I used to be. Never the less it was all good and most important I had a great time! While me and Jo were spinning our tracks Sinamon would Jam on the mic with MC CHacha and Esia from the Subculture crew, all the while Pakorn was in the back of the DJ booth creating some wicked Graf on canvas. That whole night the venue was rammed right til the end and everyone left the club happy. Since saturday night me and the whole crew have been partying like mad. I ‘ve just gotten back yesterday and I ‘m knackered! The whole event was a complete success and both the Dubway crew and I were very honored to have been invited to play at the Shelter. Big ups to DJ Drunk Monk and all the SubCulture Crew for being such a wonderful host’s and I hope to see y’all back to play next year at Dubway.

Get Sorted before Dubway

Once again I apologize for being a lazy mofo and not posting anything lately. But before you read on with the rest of this post I just want to congratulate DJ Jedie and Paranormal for rocking it at the Thai DMC Finals last night. Its great to see that Thailand is now ready to represent at the world DMC championships in the U.K. Its such a shame though that DMC team finanlists Paranormal won’t be making it to the U.K because the freakin Embassy in Bangkok denied their visa application…what a bunch of  fuckin’ haters!!

Ok now please let me tell y’all that I’ve got two gigs coming up tonight and tomorow. For tonight’s event I’ve taken a bit of a different approach because the music format is neither dubstep or dnb. Yes I know most of you who are reading this will be a bit confused and might be wondering whats going on? Well apart from dubstep and dnb  I’m also a huge fan of underground hip hop. I got my start in the biz as a hip hop DJ but since 97 I’ve had to focus my time and attention to dnb (now dubstep). Although I am a Dubstep DJ I still collect hip hop/funk/jazz/breaks and every once in a while some one would invite me to drop a hip hop set. Its gotten to the point where I ‘ve got tons of records that I want to play and never got a chance. So now I’ve created my an outlet where peeps can come check out some of the funkiest beats from the past and present. The first SORTED session took place a few months ago and it went by very well. Not only did I play hip hop but dropped other styles of music like old school hip hop, jazz, sou,l funk, breaks and even a bit of deep house. Tonights session I ‘ll have DJ Daddy G (Preduce) and DJ TORU as my guests. Both DJ’s  play awsome funk and hip hop so I ‘m very excited to hear what they ‘ve got in their crate. This event will be taking place tonight (oct/15) at Cafe Democ (free entry) and so if your in the area please stop by.

heres a sample of whats gonna go down at SORTED:

So now please let me give you the D.L on saturdays event. On Saturday night we will be having our Dubway session at the new Club Culture. Some of you might have heard that we canceled last months event because of our very close friend passing away. Well this month we’re back stronger then ever! Included in this months Line up is very well respected very talented DJ Oum. He’s been in the scene for a long time now and until recently has been getting really into Dubstep. Oum usually plays minimal techno at his Glitch Organization events. This time round he’ll be headlining Dubway and we’re all very excited about what beats he’s gonna drop on saturday night. Unfortunately we did not create a flyer for this months event. To be honest there have been so many things I’ve been stressed out about for the past month…hit me up on skype if you want details heheh. The other good news is that in November we’ll be organizing a huge Dubway festival at Club Culture so please stay tuned for further updates. Last but not least the cover charge for tomorrow nights event will be 300 baht at the door(include one drink). I hope y’all will have time to join me at either Cafe Democ or at Club Culture. Hope to see you at the party :)

and of course we can’t forget about DUBWAY:

Rest in peace Juan Paulo Mendiola aka Daddy P-lo

This month the Dubway crew lost someone dear to us. On Friday September 10 our beloved friend Juan Paulo Mendiola suffered a fatal heart attack. This tragedy happened while he was at Siam Square. Even though the ambulance and medical team arrived in time they still couldn’t save his life. He was announced D.O.A upon arrival at the hospital.

For the Dubway crew Juan Paulo Mendiola or DJ Daddy P-lo was not only a talented DJ but also someone who helped immensely by giving inspiration and moral support to everyone. Paulo was also one of the few people who agreed unconditionally to help us promote and spread the Dubway vibe to the Thai masses. He also helped the crew by warming up the decks at our events and when he had time he would be our official photographer. Most recently Paulo helped to organize the line up at our student workshops in Hua Hin – As a matter of fact Thai reggae Legend Gap T-bone agreed to be a guest at our workshop because Paulo told him about our crew.

Besides helping with work Paulo was a good friend to everyone. He always gave the best insight and advice when times were bad. Paulo was also the kind of guy that would talk nonstop and make jokes about everything. In contrast to his wit and humor, at times Paulo seemed a bit shy; sometimes he would sit and say nothing for the longest time. Either way since his passing I have realized how blessed I am to have been his friend. I wish I made more effort to show my appreciation towards him and all the things he did for me when he was alive. Dubway will never be the same without him!

I still can’t believe what has happened and in some way I think that it’s just one of Paulo’s practical jokes. It’s hard for me to smile or to try to put myself in a more positive mood. I do feel a bit better when I look back and remember all the times that we spent together. Like when Paulo and the crew were in Hua Hin celebrating my birthday and we all got drunk and jumped in the pool or just last week when we were partying at Cosmic Cafe. These are the fondest memories I have of him and I will remember those good times forever.

A few days ago I was overcome with grief and sadness but now I feel a bit at ease because in my heart I know that wherever he is right now Paulo is all right…. I just know it!  And if you knew him personally you would also feel the same way too.

All our thoughts and prayers go’s out to Paulo and his family. I ‘m also sorry to say that because of this tragedy Dubway will be canceled this month. We just want to give everyone time to mourn Paulo’s passing away. We’ll be back again in October.

Thanks everyone

Big ups to everyone that made it to our very first Dubway Session at the New Club Culture. I honestly think that the new venue is dope! The place really reminds of an illegal warehouse rave..its just an underground space for underground music lovers!!  Also big ups to Jo Stitch and Mc Sinamon for rocking the crowd til the A.M.  I hope to see everyone there again next month on September 25 (DJ’s TBC).

Dubway session at the new Club Culture

Well this year has certainly been a year full of surprises because, since the beginning of the year the Dubway events have had to move from one club to another. As you know the old Club Culture has closed and only to re surface again at a new location. From my perspective I thought we would have never been asked by Club Culture to go back and host our Dubway nights at there, especially since the new club is trying to stick to a strictly house music and electro policy. Well lo and behold the management have invited us back to rock beats at there brand spankin’ new club. The venue is as underground as your gonna get it Bangkok. The place looks like a townhouse that some kids broke into and organized an illegal rave. This months session will be just Jo Stitch, myself and Mc Sinamon tearin’ shit up from 10 pm to 2am ( or whenever the cops come). Its going to be crazy fun because I haven’t had a full on 2 hour session in a long time , plus it would be an honor for me to pop the clubs bass bin’s cherry. Tickets are 300 baht at the door but the event is free before 11pm. For those of you who didn’t get a chance to cop a dope Tee at the other events you can rest assured that they will be on sale there. I hope every one can make it down there on August Friday the 20th. To be honest I ‘m dying to get super drunk and play some dope ass beats.. hope y’all feel like joining me :)

Check out the pictures from the last DUBWAY Workshop at Vic Hua Hin

Sorry for taking so long to post this up but last weeks workshop were a success! I know for most of you who read this probably wonder why we even did such a thing in the first place? Well to put it simply – MTV ain’t teaching your kids shit so we’ve taken it as our responsibility to do so. The workshops that day focused on Beat mixing, Graffiti, Graphic design, Electronic music production and Dub music history. Much love go’s out to our teachers Pakorn, T Puchpen, Space 360, Seed Norasate and the Legendary Gap T-bone. I hope we helped broaden the minds of the many thai youths that attended. Also much thanks to Vic Hua Hin and Patravadi High School for letting us set up camp there. Last but not least Big ups to Coffee works and Chef Hiroshi for working so hard to make our food and refreshments. I must admit though If there was anything I learned from this experience it is to not ever try to teach a class in Thai at 10 in the morning… my brain just does not work that early.

Next stop Hua Hin

Last months Dubway exhibition at Art Gorilla’s in Siam Square went by so damn well, everyone is still buzzing off the vibes. Well I’m glad to say that we ‘re not going to stop there. In fact we’ve set up the next exhibition at VIC HUA HIN aka Patravadi High School in Hua Hin town. The sleepy sea side town is about 2 and half hours drive from Bangkok and is ranked number one is my most favorite places to chill. Apart from the change in locale we will be starting the the show at 10 in the morning. Now I know what you must be thinking right now, what the fuck are we going to do that early in the morning! Well apart from the exhibition the Dubway crew will also be teaching. Yes that’s right we will be conducting our very own work shops!! And it seems appropriate since the event is taking place at a high school. And guess who’s going to be teaching the classes? In the line up we ‘ve got DJ SEED of Generation Terrorist, Space 360 from DELICATE, Pakorn from BNH CREW, T.Puchpen of DUBWAY fame, yours truly and last but not least we have the godfather of the Thai reggae scene GAP T-BONE. Topics range Dub music history, Graffiti, Beat mixing, Graphic Design, and DUB music mixing. Damn if High School was this much fun I’d have my PHD by now! Apart from the workshops there will also be free japanese curry prepared by our very own chef Hiroshi from Japan, Ice coffee will be also supplied courtesy of Coffee Works. After the workshops we will be having an after party at CHUBCHEEVA, I ‘ll post up a map soon so y’all can find the place a bit easier. Please remember that  anyone can come and join but please get there early since space is limited.
