Club Triangle

Posted in events, pictures, random thought with tags , , on February 24, 2011 by dragon

I am very honored to have been invited to play at Club Triangle in Osaka Japan. I’ve played in Japan a few times but I’ve never been to any other city then Tokyo and in contrast to that city’s workaholic lifestyle  Osaka’s  inhabitants are so much more laid back. Right in the heart of Osaka’s downtown district is Club Triangle. This 3 floor venue blasts everything from underground to hip hop to drum n bass on its massive sound system. DJ wise selectah’s such as Rebel Mc, DJ Zinc and Laurent Garnier have graced the club’s decks. DJ Toyo – Club Triangle’s manager booked me to play on Friday night and even though the crowd was a lot different  than what I am used to (it was a house/techno night) I still am very honored to have been invited by Toyo to represent Thailand and the Dubway crew over in Osaka. I reckon a lot of the stuff that I play nowadays isn’t that much dub step and more on the garage tip, it certainly did go down well with the ravers inside the club on that night. To top that I was joined by an army of my close friends, many of whom I met in Bangkok ages ago. We all got niced up on the two free bottles of Jack Daniels that Toyo kindly supplied us with. If y’all want to see the madness  I uploaded some pictures on my facebook so please feel free to check out what went down on the frosty February night :) I also want to big up DJ Hiroo (oyampan), Quotaroo, Mami and Nobu, Fum and Ken, Naru and Fumi, Hiro, DJ Toyo,  DJ Tuttle,  Fat Boy,  Galaxy Gallery Crew and all the wonderfull peeps I met in Osaka. BIG UPS TO Y’ALL!

Shanghai Trip

Posted in events, pictures, random thought with tags , , , on November 9, 2010 by dragon

To date Shanghai is the asian City that I  visit  most frequently. In fact Just last year I was invited to play at the Shelter. The first time playing at that club was Awesome and to date I consider the Shelter is my one of my favorite clubs in Asia. This year I was lucky enough to have been invited again  by Subculture resident DJ Drunk Monk.  The only thing  different from last time was that this event would see Myself, Jo stitch, Mc Sinamon, Pakorn and Napat heading over to Shanghai to Jam with the Subculture crew. Most times I ‘ve DJ’d overseas I would have to go by myself but this time It was great to be able to head to Shanghai with all of my crew. We landed in Shanghai on Thursday night and after we checked in to our rooms we all went out for a night of serious boozing. Big ups to Gaz for supplying us with all those Tiger beers and Jager shots!! We pretty much did the same thing on Friday night but didn’t  go all out since we had to save our energy for the big night on Saturday. I had to admit that I was still quite tired when Saturday came. I took a nap before the party and woke up around 8. I met up with everyone at the Club and made it in time to hear DJ DJI get on the dekcs. After it was DJ Drunk Monk setting things straight with a solid hour of some of the deepest dubstep sounds I’ve heard in ages.  Then it was time for Jo Stitch to heat  up the venue with some serious hard hitting dnb and lemme tell ya the crowd went banana’s to his set! To be honest I think he deserved every last bit of applause :) Jo’s  come a long way and has worked with me for many years now and I’m glad to see him have such a wonderful time that night at the club. I got on the decks at 2:30 and by that time a few peeps were a bit worn out from Jo’s beats so it did take a while for me to get things going again. I think this time I played it was more difficult to get the crowd hyped then the last time I played in 2009. I’m certainly not really into the wobbly bass as much as I used to be. Never the less it was all good and most important I had a great time! While me and Jo were spinning our tracks Sinamon would Jam on the mic with MC CHacha and Esia from the Subculture crew, all the while Pakorn was in the back of the DJ booth creating some wicked Graf on canvas. That whole night the venue was rammed right til the end and everyone left the club happy. Since saturday night me and the whole crew have been partying like mad. I ‘ve just gotten back yesterday and I ‘m knackered! The whole event was a complete success and both the Dubway crew and I were very honored to have been invited to play at the Shelter. Big ups to DJ Drunk Monk and all the SubCulture Crew for being such a wonderful host’s and I hope to see y’all back to play next year at Dubway.

Big ups to everyone that made it to our very first Dubway Session at the New Club Culture. I honestly think that the new venue is dope! The place really reminds of an illegal warehouse rave..its just an underground space for underground music lovers!!  Also big ups to Jo Stitch and Mc Sinamon for rocking the crowd til the A.M.  I hope to see everyone there again next month on September 25 (DJ’s TBC).

ABSOLUT WORLD part 1

Tomorrow night the DUBWAY crew alongside, Yaak party and Jiving Tribe will be rocking the one and two’s at the new Club Culture in Rajadamnern Klang Road. Proceeds from this charity party will go to the families that lost their loved ones in riots that happened in May this year. In the main room will be the Mustard Pimp’s (Dim Mak recordings). Entry is 300 baht (good times included).

* the event was a complete success even despite all the air conditioners breaking down. The vibe reminded me of underground raves I used to go to when I was younger. massive sets played by everyone and all the ravers were up for it! click on the link below to check out the pix from the party:

Our first ever gallery exhibition showcasing the artwork of T.Puchpen and Homebass graff writer Pakorn was a complete success. I’m so happy to be able show people that Homebass Communications and DUBWAY is just another party but instead I ‘d like to think of it as a movement that incorporates all styles of dubwize sounds, street art, visuals and education. Its also good to have peoples that normally wouldn’t come to our nights check out fresh art, dope tunes and mingle with the crew in a relaxed environment. The last thing I’d like to mention about the artists is that they have progressed so much over the years. I remember meeting Pakorn ages ago when he was still a novice graf writer, but wow I’m so amazed by how much his work has matured over the years. T.Puchpen I think is one of the only guys that pretty much knows what go’s on inside my head as he’s always creating the stuff that only I dream about. I hope to give Dubway and both artists more opportunity to become better known in Thailand and the world. Skies the limit and we’ll see what happens. Either way we couldn’t have done it with out your support. Big ups to T.Puchpen and Pakorn for working so hard to create the art for the show. I also want to thank Space 360, Daddy P-lo and DJ Hiro for supplying the downtempo, dub reggae and dubstep tunes. Big ups to Sinamon for the mic duties, Hiroshi for making the oishi yakitori, teppei@ Traps wanna, Manta@the nation, DJ To-ru, Jo Stitch, Dude mag, ART Gorilla’s, everyone who came to show there support and last but not least ASAHI BEER for supporting this project. Don’t forget we will be taking this exhibition on tour. We’ve got the next show in Hua HIn on July 31.

Beer Chang moonlight rave

Posted in events, pictures with tags , , , , , on December 6, 2009 by dragon

I’m sure everyone in the world has heard of the infamous Full Moon rave parties in Koh Phangan Thailand. The party which takes place on every full moon attracts  back packers and hippies looking to party there ass’s off for days on end. I myself have been there a few times and each time end up getting wrecked! Another place in Thailand that is also well known but not as popular for pill popping backpackers is  Phuket. This island was made popular back in the day because the Asian Tsunami nearly destroyed the place. Speed things up to the present and Beer Chang decided they wanted to organize the first ever full moon party in Phuket. Ironically the event would be held on one of the beaches that was hit the hardest by the disaster. Through out the years the Phuket tourism authority have been working very hard to get the island back to its former state. The local government have also organized a few outdoor events such as ROY FEST, Sequence festival and now the Beer Chang rave in order to attract a younger crowd to the island. The event line up included  Lapsap, Goldfish, Suharit, Khan Thaitanium and last but not least my stankin’ ass was also invited. Not exactly the kind of line up but you ‘d expect at an outdoor rave but whatever.. its all good!

A few posts back I also wrote that I wouldn’t be eating any more mushrooms before I or while I dj. Well while in Phuket I completely ignored what I had promised to myself and ended up taking those bad ass shroom’s. I always thought that I could handle myself when ingesting hallucinogenic drugs. I‘ve proven once again that I should totally stay away from them (well at least when I’m spinning). I ended taking the stuff about 2 hours before my set and honestly I was thinking that it would be enough time to get my head straight. Instead when 2 hours was over I had reached the peak of my high. It sucks to be in a situation like this because you have to focus and cant really enjoy your trip. Maybe that’s why the first 10 minutes of my set was a fucking nightmare! I was tripping my tits off thinking the records looked like they were warping. The other bad thing was the stage floor. When I moved around  the stage the floor would shake and wobble, sometimes someone would stomp the floor  it would make the needle jump. Shit like this happens almost at every outdoor party I’ve played, only with the exception of ROY FEST festival also held earlier this year in Phuket.. That festival by the way had one of the best sound systems I’ve heard in ages. It also had a wicked stage set up as well.

Although the P.A system for this party wasn’t as big as the one they had at ROY FEST the rig that they had set up for this event still rocked! I think what must have calmed me from tripping so hard was the fact that the beats sounded so good. I remember when I dropped The Chase by Jack Sparrow I felt like I was going to explode! The low end frequencies emitted from the bass bin’s made it seem as they were going to cause another tsunami.  Another track that really impressed both me and the crowd was Youthmans’s remix of DJ Yas’ track called Rebirth. I ‘ve had this pressed on acetate for ages and I’m suprised the grooves haven’t worn out. On the night of the party the crowd went ballistic over the breakdown of the song – total crowd pleaser! I did make it through the rest of my set even though I was still ripped by the time that I got off the decks. I’m thankful I got the chance to introduce  both the tourist and local crowd to the awesome sounds of  dubstep. I’m also hopeful that events like this one will put Phuket back on the Thai party map. In all the night was a blast and I hope that I will get the chance to do it again either at ROY FEST 2010 or fingers crossed at the next Beer Chang party. And I promise not to take shrooms the next time … for real!

*btw the name for the actual event was Beer Chang Moonlight Regatta, but I changed it to Beer Chang Rave cuz the other name sounded a bit dull !! big ups to Petch and that dutch dude that hooked us up, also big shouts to kaew for runnin’ tingz! The Shelter

Posted in events, Flyers, pictures on October 29, 2009 by dragon

Subculture at The Shelter ShanghaiJust recently I was invited by DJ Gaz  from  the Shelter club in Shanghai to be a guest at his monthly event called  Sub Culture. If you haven’t heard of the legendary club and its location you would be in for a suprise because the venue was originally an old World War II bomb shelter. Since those early days the decor of the club  hasn’t changed much as it still has the same reinforced concrete walls tunnel like corridors. The feel and vibe of the place is so Grimey and raw, being there reminded me of my early rave  days of Deeper club in silom soi 4. I was very excited and honored to have been invited to play there even though it was my doctors orders to not do any drinking or smoking for well… the rest of my life! But even still I had to go on with the show. and yes I did drink bucket loads of Heiniken but I really feel guilty bout that hehe. The turnout for that night wasn’t as big as the promoters had wanted but, the crowd that did show were well up for it. Apart from having me as a guest the club has hosted nights with DJ’s such as  Zinc, Pinch, Dam Funk, Goth Trad and DJ Kentaro. I recommend that anyone who is an electronic music fan visit the Shelter on there next stop to Shanghai.

Big up’s to Gaz and all the Shelter family you guys are the best !!!
